Panic attacks another from of anxiety can typically vary in duration lasting for more than 10 minutes, considered the most stressful condition and can even go on to mimic a heart attack.

Typically, people who have their first attack will beyond doubts have further attacks from their sheer anxiety anticipating another attack and this eventually leads to panic disorder. There are few other emotional problems also that have panic attacks as a symptom, few of which include schizophrenia, intoxication, weaning off from drug abuse, or posttraumatic stress disorder or PTSD.

Again, there are few medical conditions and medications that could lead to panic attacks and anxiety. Good examples of these would be anemia or thyroid abnormalities and anti–malarial medications and stimulants. Researches also confirm that people with panic attacks are more prone to a heart condition called MVP or mitral valve prolapse.

Nocturnal panic attack is something that occurs at night while a person is asleep. It is believed that people suffering from nocturnal panic attacks are more prone to having respiratory distress related to their panic attacks. Again these individuals are victims of a lot of psychiatric disorders and depression as opposed to suffer of daytime panic attacks and anxiety.

The nocturnal panic attacks typically wake up the sufferer from their sleep with a jolt of fear or anxiety for illogical reasons. Though the duration of these nocturnal attacks last only about 10–15 minutes, it takes the sufferers much longer to regain their composure and get back to normal.

Causes of Panic attacks and anxiety symptoms are more or less the same in adolescents when compared to adults, but then again, it varies in younger children with regards to the cognitive aspects. Particularly, adolescents are said to be in a more hazy or dream–like condition with a weird feeling, worse still fearing death or of going crazy.

Well when it boils down to what the difference between anxiety and panic attacks, the answer is – akin to other emotional conditions, panic attacks are end result of biological vulnerabilities combined with the thinking process and social stressors. In other words, panic attacks and anxiety can be described as an illogical triggering of the body’s alarm system devoid of any danger.
